A Woman with Soul: Kelly McLeod
Tell us about a deep soul connection that you’ve experienced. I met my soulmate back in high school. He wrote me my first love letter and my life changed in that moment… We both went on to marry different people… Gary and I met after 20 years at our high school reunion and we just knew: Our hearts connected and I felt like we were complete again after years of wandering.
I believe the timing of us reconnecting was because we both had a lot of healing to do. I knew all the years away from him that I was missing something in my heart. I longed for a connection, I longed for the grip of his hand. And in the moment of our 20-years-later connection, our hands drew together like nothing I have ever felt. He spoke to my heart and he has never left my side.
Describe one of the most soul-opening moments of your life. I was walking along the beach with my dad. I was holding his little finger and we were making footprints in the sand. As we were walking, I looked up and said, “Daddy, please carry me.” He looked down and said, “Honey, I can’t.” I said, “Daddy, please carry me.” He said, “Honey, I can’t.” Again I said, “Daddy, please carry me.” “Honey,” he said in a soft voice, “I would love to, but I want you to make your own footprints in life. I will walk beside you.” As we continued he said to me, “Do you see that big wave coming? I want you to get on your surfboard and ride the wave to wherever it may go. I want you to follow your own dreams, to live a life you desire.”
When do you feel your most soulful? When I am riding my motorcycle in the mountains in the late evening. The sun is setting, the evening breeze is blowing through my hair, and my bike is connected to my heart.
Where have you felt the most in touch with your soul? I grew up in the great north right on the Alaskan border of BC on 18 acres… I had a connection with my horse like we were one. I could slide down her neck and tail. I was galloping on her one day down a tree-covered trail. Something spooked her and she threw me off. Instead of running away, she turned around and knelt down and let me back on.
What do you feel your soul’s purpose is? I am a free spirit: dancing my dreams, daring to love myself… I am wild like the spirit horse. Watch me soar as I follow my dreams and allow my heart to dance, showing others how to live outside their comfort box. I am not trying to fit in; I was born to stand out!
I was once asked what I would do if I had two weeks to live. I said, “I would get someone to teach me a song with passion, and I would walk the beach making footprints in the sand holding the fingers of the ones I love. I would give my kids all the love and fun they wanted and take them places they’d never been. I would hug everyone I met. I would have a party to celebrate life… I’d make love with a man I was heart-connected to on top of a mountain, on a beach, and in the back seat of my 65 Mustang.”
